Program Description, Achievement and Accreditation status

Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering program is intended to prepare students for a professional industrial Engineering Career Including a leading role in design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, information, equipment, and energy. Graduates of the program must have specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems.

The program is a four- year degree divided into eight semesters with 65 courses. BSIE courses are designed holistically in two stages: the general engineering courses from first to second year and program major courses stage follows from third to fourth year. The learning plans of the program incorporates the Core Values of the University anchored on its VMGOs. This would be a way for the program to ensure that the teaching and learning activities that leads to the realization of the learning outcomes are aligned with the principles of the University.

The BSIE program is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Development (COD) since 1999. At present, the program holds the distinction as the only COD among the engineering programs offered in the university and the only COD in IE in the Central Luzon region. It was also granted a Level II reaccreditation status by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) in the year 2020. The program was also considered as one of the top Industrial Engineering schools in the Philippines based on the granting of CHED COE and COD program status.

The BSIE program is lifetime active member of Operations Research Society of the Philippines that develop and promote the advancement and practice of OR/MS in the country. The program is also an active member of Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers and Human Factors Society of the Philippines.

Achievements and Accreditation Status

Through the joint efforts of the Don Juan D. Nepomuceno and Archbishop Pedro P. Santos, Holy Angel Academy was founded in 1933. Now known as °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ (HAU) since achieving its university status in 1981, it offers transformative Catholic education to students at the basic education, tertiary, and graduate levels.

HAU is a recipient of the prestigious Philippine Quality Award (PQA) in 2016 with the distinction of being among only three HEIs that have achieved PQA Level 2 Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management. It was also conferred the Global Performance Excellence Award for 2018 by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO) at the Jumeirah Etihad Towers Hotel, Abu Dhabi for its quality education.

HAU was granted the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification on Quality Management Systems both academic programs and support service from basic education to higher education programs. HAU was also given the most coveted award by organizations in the Luzon Region – the 2019 Employer of the Year Award by the People Management Association of the Philippines on May 2019.

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) Program started as Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) in 1977, later changed to Industrial Engineering (IE) in 1978, and reverted to IME in 1979, all on temporary permit status. Later in 1983, the program received its permit as Bachelor of Science in Management and Industrial Engineering (B.S. M.I.E.). Government recognition was obtained in 1986 for Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering which continues to be offered as one of the major programs of the school to the present day.

It was established in 1981 with the name Association of Management and Industrial Engineers of the Philippines (AMIEP) – HAU and later on changed its name to Association of Industrial Engineers of the Philippines (AIEP) –HAU in 1999. It was also during this year when the BS Industrial Engineering program was awarded as a Center of Development (COD) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and had maintained this distinction up to the present. In the year 2000, the organization name was changed to Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers- °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Student Chapter.

The organization has continuously flourished in its dedication to professional and educational excellence through its active involvement in regional and national research competitions. In 2020, the organization was hailed as the Champion in the “Unravel x Ergocon: Protection through Innovation Design Contest” presented by the Industrial Management Engineering Society (IMES) and Benildean Industrial Designers (BID). In the same year, the organization also won First Runner-Up in the 2020 Enactus Philippines Business Innovation Idea Challenge (BIIC) and the 14th Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) Competition. In the succeeding year, the organization has bagged the Overall First-Runner in the 11th PIIE-NCLSC Regional Congress and obtained three awards in the 17th PIIE-NSC National Congress including the Champion for the Feasibility Study.

Looking forward to its 40th year, the organization remains true to its mantra “We make things better” by thriving amidst the pandemic. It will carry on with its mission to serve as an instrument for future Industrial Engineers to be professionally prepared in their endeavors for the coming years to come.
